An electronics retailer has offered its female customers in Sweden to return the entire amount when they are pregnant within a month of purchasing any item from any of their branches. Many women’s organizations started criticizing such offers of electronics store and have also filed a complaint.
Women critics have reacted sharply to the advertisement promoting this strange proposal. It also has a satirical slogan with a pregnancy test. Women have also objected to this slogan.
Evidence of pregnancy test will be given within 30 days
The Electronics Retailer is offering its female customers to return the entire amount through an in-store credit on their purchase when they are pregnant within 30 days of purchasing an item on one of their 29 stores located in Sweden.
This offer applies to women over 20 years of age who can prove that she has become pregnant within 30 days of buying an electrical equipment by giving medical certificate. They also have to show that their expected delivery date is between 260 and 303 days of purchasing in the branch.
Accused of showing women like an object
This offer and advertisement of Norway’s electronics supplier has been accused of showing women as an object and earning profit from it. Women critics compared the advertisement to the patriarchal diastopia ‘The Handmade Tail’ of Margaret Atwood, showing women like a maid who raised children.
The company argued to promote the declining birth rate of the country
At the same time, the company says that it has implemented a ‘baby bonus’ measure to improve the declining birth rate of Sweden. The birth rate per female here is 1.4. This rate is higher than neighboring Finland, but it is declining. It has decreased by 1.7 percent in the first half of 2025 compared to 2024.
Critics of this advertisement campaign have reported this to the National Advertisement Lokpal of Sweden and complained that it is malicious towards women in the form of marketing strategy.
In the past, this company has been in the news for its controversial offer.
This is not the first time this electronics store is surrounded by controversies due to its promotion. Last year too, this retail store had to withdraw an advertisement, promising 50 percent discount to customers wishing to make his logo in the form of tattoos.
