US President Donald Trump has imposed 25% additional tax on goods coming from India. This tax has been levied by India to buy oil from Russia. After this decision, a total of 50% tax will be levied on goods going from India to the US market. In such a situation, the rhetoric about this has intensified in India. In this connection, the Congress National President and Leader of Rajya Sabha, Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, on Thursday described the decision of US President Donald Trump to impose 50% tariff on Indian goods as a major failure of the central government’s foreign policy.
Kharge said that this step of Trump has come at a time when India’s diplomacy seems weak and confused. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completely failed to deal with this crisis and now Trump is putting pressure on India. He said that Trump is now threatening India and putting pressure on, but Modi ji is silent. Kharge said that PM Modi did not say anything even when Trump called BRICS dead in 2024 and threatened 100% tariff.

Worried about economic impact
Along with this, Kharge also expressed concern about the economic situation on the tariff policy of America. He said that India’s export to the US is about ₹ 7.51 lakh crore (2024). 50% tariff will cost India about ₹ 3.75 lakh crore. He said that this would cause the most damage to agriculture, MSME, dairy, engineering, electronics, gems and jewelery, medicines, petroleum and textile industry.
