Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Leh district of Ladakh on December 7, where he will inaugurate the important strategic tunnel of Shyok located on the Durbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie road. According to officials, the event is expected to take place at 10:30 am.
The approximately 982 meter long tunnel is being seen as a major infrastructure development for the region. This will make the movement of army personnel as well as locals much easier. The problem of landslides will end. After the inauguration, easy and uninterrupted movement will be possible throughout the year to the forward posts and surrounding villages.
During the visit, the Defense Minister will online inaugurate several projects constructed by the Border Roads Organization in various states besides Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. About 40 new projects will be inaugurated in Ladakh. Lieutenant Governor Kavindra Gupta will be present with him at Shyok.
LG informed about preparations
Director General of Border Roads Organization, Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan met Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Friday and gave detailed information about the ongoing works aimed at increasing connectivity in the area and encouraging tourism. Lieutenant General informed about the preparations for the inauguration of Shyok Tunnel.
Apart from this, detailed information was given about the progress of major projects Himank, Vijayak and Yojak. He said that Nimmo-Padum-Darcha road is playing an important role in increasing strategic connectivity from Himachal to Ladakh.
Apart from this, Tangtse-Lukung and Khalsar-Agyam-Shyok roads are almost completed. The Lieutenant General also discussed the proposal to double lane the Lukung-Chushul road. Apart from this, the Lieutenant Governor was informed that the construction of the cafeteria along the Pangong Lake route is going on.
