The four -day annual Ladakh Festival was canceled after the violence. The gathering of people was banned. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk broke the hunger strike and appealed to the youth to maintain peace. A large number of students were among the protesters. Wangchuk was sitting on hunger strike for 15 days on demands. 15 workers of the Youth Branch of Ladakh Apex Body (LAB) were also on a hunger strike of 35 days from September 10. The condition of two workers worsened to the hospital on Tuesday, after which LAB announced the Leh bandh on Wednesday. A large number of youths took to the streets in the band and took out a march.

The situation deteriorated when the protesters pelted stones at the police and security forces. The headquarters of the BJP and the Hill Council were on fire with stone pelting. Police and CRPF vehicles were set on fire.

Conspiracy behind the performance, will investigate the role of outsiders: Lt. Governor

Ladakh Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavindra Gupta said, “The democratic system has the right to perform, but it should be in a peaceful manner.” Efforts were made to provoke people continuously in the last two days. The performance here is being compared to Nepal and Bangladesh. This brings smell of conspiracy. When security forces were landed to maintain law and order, CRPF vehicle was burnt. The vehicle of its Director General was stoned. If the protests did not stop, the protesters would destroy the entire city. The involvement of outsiders in the violence will be investigated.

Violence erupted by Wangchuk’s statements: Government

The central government said that the violence erupted due to the statements of Sonam Wangchuk. The Home Ministry said, “There has been progress in talks between the government and the representatives of the groups of Ladakh, but some people inspired by politics are not happy with it.” The ministry said, Wangchuk misled people by provocating protests of the Arab Spring-style during the hunger strike and the demonstrations of Jane-G in Nepal.

Case filed against Congress leader: A case has been registered for making inflammatory speeches at Congress leader and councilor Phuntasog Stanjin Tsepag.

Congress provoked violence: BJP

BJP MP Sambit Patra said that an attempt was made to show in Ladakh that General Z was leading the protests. When the investigation was done, it was found that these protests were led by the Congress, not General Z. but the Congress. Congress councilor Stanjin Tsepang is a councilor from Upper Leh Ward. High power committee meeting is proposed on October 6

The meeting of the High Power Committee i.e. HPC on Ladakh affairs is proposed on October 6. This included the Ministry of Home Affairs and Representatives of Ladakh, including members of LAB and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), went to New Delhi to speak. Sonam Wangchuk was in favor of the meeting being held before October 6. Despite several rounds of talks, not even a step on the sixth schedule has been taken forward.

What is sixth schedule

The sixth schedule of the Constitution currently includes four northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam. It makes special provisions regarding the financial powers used through Schedule Governance, the powers of the President and the Governor, the type of local bodies, the alternative judicial system and the autonomous councils.

He also called upon other members of LAB not to close the path of talks. Said that the path of Ladakh’s interests will be clear only by negotiation. The demand for employment related youth is being met, but the case of inclusion in the sixth schedule is big. The government should take some decision on this.
