India and Russia are all set to take their relations to the next stage. The Kremlin said on Wednesday that during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India, the two countries will sign a roadmap for strategic economic partnership till 2030. According to Russian media Tash, Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov said Putin’s visit to India on December 4-5 is ‘very important’ and will provide an opportunity for detailed talks on relations between the two countries. A number of agreements and important documents are expected to be signed in a number of areas at the end of the visit.

Russia and India are working on many big projects, production cooperation, innovation technology, peaceful space research, transportation, labor exchange programs and healthcare are prominent in these. The tourism sector is also seeing a boom, with 8.8 lakh Russian citizens visiting India in 2024, while 40,000 people from India visited Russia.

Defense cooperation – big step

Russia’s Parliament has recently approved an important military agreement, which sets a standardized procedure for the movement of troops, military ships and aircraft between the two countries. This system will be used during joint military exercises, training, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Putin is accompanied by high-level government and business representatives. It includes the Russian Defense Minister, heads of Roscosmos (space agency), Rosneft, Sberbank, VTB Bank, and representatives from the nuclear, rail, energy and technology sectors.

25 years of India-Russia special strategic partnership

This visit is also special because the strategic partnership of the two countries is completing 25 years. In 2000 it was declared a ‘Strategic Partnership’, in 2010 it got the status of Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

PM Modi-Putin summit meeting

Both the leaders will meet during the 23rd India-Russia summit. Later both will address the India-Russia Business Forum. President Draupadi Murmu will host a state banquet in Putin’s honour.
