Karnataka HC Slams State Government for Allowing Protest Against Waqf Act Amid Pending Case in Supreme Court – Amar Ujala Hindi News Live – Waqf Law: The High Court launched Karnataka government, asked, asked

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday lashed out at the state government over protests against the Waqf Act. The High Court asked the government as to why it gave the protest against the law, while the matter is still under consideration in the Supreme Court. Justice M Nagprasanna said that it is unfair to allow such demonstrations in view of the ongoing proceedings in the Supreme Court. The case will be heard again on 23 April.

Justice Nagprasanna said, the state should keep in mind that the Supreme Court is considering the amendment of the Waqf Act. Such protests should not be allowed during this period. The court directed the government to ensure that public roads should not be interrupted by such events and protests should be held only at specified places and with official permission. The court insisted, “If there is no permission, no protests can be held.”

Message issued by Police Commissioner challenged

These comments of the High Court came during the hearing of the petition of Rajesh A, a resident of Mangaluru. The petition challenged a message issued by the city police commissioner, directing private bus operators and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation not to operate services on a part of National Highway 73 from 12 noon to 9 pm on Friday due to protests against Waqf Act amendment. According to the petitioner, this advice has led to unnecessary disruption in public transport. Advocates Hemant R Rao and Lilesh Krishna represented him.

The state government said this in its reply

When asked about the protest, the state government in its reply told the court that the initial communication has been revised. Normal traffic flows will be maintained. However, officials have advised that heavy and medium commercial vehicles should adopt an alternative route as a precaution.
