Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai took over as Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Wednesday. He was sworn in by President Draupadi Murmu. Justice Gawai replaced Justice Sanjeev Khanna, who retired the previous day. Earlier on the 30th of last month, the Law Ministry issued a notification of Justice Gawai’s appointment as the 52nd Chief Justice of India. On 16 April, CJI Khanna recommended his name to the central government. Justice Gawai’s term will be six months. He will retire on 23 December.
