Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said that his government will not implement the Waqf (Amendment) Act in the state. On this question related to this, Ansari said, Sharia is big for me. We Muslims walk in the Quran chest and in the constitution. So we will first catch Sharia, then the Constitution. This is what my Islam says.

Union Minister of State for Defense and MP from Ranchi Sanjay Seth described Ansari’s statement as the misfortune of democracy. He said, today the country is celebrating the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, and on this day a minister is telling Sharia above the Constitution. This is very unfortunate. The constitution is at the top, nothing can be above that.

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi described Ansari’s statement as a matter of serious concern and said that the minister has made it clear from his remarks that if his parties remain in power, the Constitution will be in danger. Trivedi said that he keeps the constitution in his pocket, while the constituents of BJP and NDA keep the constitution in their chest. This fight is between those keeping the constitution in the pocket and those who keep the constitution in the heart. Ansari’s statement shows that he has no respect for the Constitution.

States will have to implement Waqf law

Sudhanshu Trivedi also made it clear that the State Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 cannot refuse to implement. He said, “We want to clarify that the powers of the central, state and district level governments are clearly defined after the 73rd and 74th amendments in the Constitution. No district panchayat can go beyond the law passed by the state assembly and no state can ignore the law passed by the Center (Parliament).
