A top commander of The Resistance Front (TRF) got trapped during an encounter between terrorists and security forces on Wednesday at Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter took place a day after 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which was taken by TRF, a branch of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Pakistan.

Encounter is going on in Tangamarg area of ​​South Kashmir district. Yesterday morning, the Indian Army thwarted the attempt to infiltrate the two terrorists and killed them in Baramulla after heavy firing. After the encounter, security forces recovered a large number of weapons and ammunition as well as Pakistani currency.

Deadly attack of recent years

On Tuesday afternoon, five to six terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in the Basaron meadow, about 5 km from Pahalgam. This area can be reached only by sitting on foot or on a horse. The Pahalgam attack was one of the most deadly civil attacks in the Kashmir Valley in recent years.

Eyewitnesses said that the terrorists came out of the surrounding cedar forests and fired bullets at the people who were eating picnic or eating at the dining stall. Most of the victims were tourists, including two foreign and two locals from UAE and Nepal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped his visit to Saudi Arabia in the middle and held a meeting of the Cabinet Committee (CCS) in Delhi to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

India in action after the attack

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Srinagar within a few hours of the terrorist attack and conducted a high-level security review with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir. He also visited the place of attack in Pahalgam and met the families of the victims and the survivors.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has described this attack as ‘any larger than any attack on citizens in recent years’. Many top leaders have strongly condemned the attack, expressing their grief and solidarity towards the victims and their families. Security forces have intensified their search operations in the area with the aim of finding criminals.
