For the past several months, demonstrations were taking place in Israel regarding ceasefire and the release of hostages.
The war that has been going on between Israel and Hamas in Gaza for the last 15 months will end on Sunday, January 19. For this, deals related to ceasefire and release of hostages have been finalized in both. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al-Thani gave this information on Wednesday.
Negotiations for ceasefire were going on in Doha, the capital of Qatar for the last several weeks. Egypt and America were also involved in this conversation. According to the deal, Hamas will release the Israeli hostages in its captivity. In return Israel will also release Hamas people.
According to Al Jazeera report, Qatar PM Thani met representatives of Hamas and Israel on Wednesday, after which the deal was completed. A competition to take credit for the deal has begun between US President Joe Biden and newly elected President Donald Trump.
On the other hand, Israeli attacks still continue in Gaza. According to Al Jazeera report, 40 people died in the Israeli attack on Thursday.

Credit war between Biden and Trump
US President Joe Biden and newly elected President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed credit for the ceasefire. The White House also included Trump’s representative in this deal. Posting on social media, Trump said that this historic agreement was possible because of our victory in the presidential elections.
Trump said that this deal is evidence of my administration’s efforts to establish peace and ensure the security of America and its allies.
Whereas Biden, while mentioning the deal in his last speech from the White House, said that-
Our diplomatic efforts for ceasefire never stopped. This agreement became possible only after increasing pressure on Hamas, change in regional equations and ceasefire in Lebanon. This is the result of America’s diplomacy.
Before his inauguration, Donald Trump had given an ultimatum to Hamas to cease fire.
Israeli President asked the Cabinet to approve the deal
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has asked the Cabinet to approve the ceasefire deal. Herzog said that-
We could not fulfill our responsibility in stopping the attack on 7th October. Now we should take steps to improve it.
Herzog also thanked Prime Minister Netanyahu and those involved in the negotiations for the deal. Also appealed to approve the deal and bring back Israeli citizens.
Herzog thanked both Biden and Trump for the deal.
Hamas leader calls ceasefire Israel’s defeat
Senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, reacting to the ceasefire, called it a historic moment, calling it Israel’s defeat. According to the Times of Israel report, Khalil praised the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and called it a major achievement. She said it would be told with pride to future generations.
Speaking on the ceasefire, Khalil said that our people foiled Israel’s occupation attempt.

India welcomed the ceasefire
India has also welcomed the decision while reacting to the ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas. The Ministry of External Affairs gave this information by issuing an official statement on its website on Thursday.
India said-
We hope that this will ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. We have always called for the release of all hostages, a ceasefire and a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy.
What will happen next now?
Hamas’s condition is that in the first phase of the ceasefire deal, the Israeli army will move 700 meters back from the Gaza border into its territory. At present this ceasefire deal is yet to be presented in the Israeli cabinet. The ceasefire deal will be implemented immediately as soon as it is approved there.
America’s newly elected President Donald Trump said regarding this deal that Hamas will soon release the hostages. News agency AFP had said in its report on Monday, ‘The first phase of ceasefire between Israel and Hamas may last for a total of 42 days.
In the first phase of the ceasefire deal, Hamas can release 33 hostages, including 5 women. On the other hand, Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners in return. After 15 days, Hamas will release the remaining hostages. Meanwhile, both sides will talk about permanent ceasefire.
Deal brokered by Qatar and America
This agreement was negotiated in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with the help of Egypt, Qatar and America. Israel was represented by Mossad Chief David Barnia and Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar. At the same time, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Biden’s envoy Brett McGurk were present here from the US side.
Palestinian citizens will return to North Gaza
According to CNN report, under the ceasefire deal, Israel will allow Palestinian citizens displaced from North Gaza to return. However, for security reasons the presence of Israeli soldiers may remain in this area.
A buffer zone will be created between Gaza and Israel. Both Israel and Hamas had different demands regarding the buffer zone. Israel had demanded a buffer zone of 2 km from the border, while Hamas wanted a buffer zone of 300 to 500 meters as before October 2023.
On the other hand, Israel has refused to return the dead body of Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar under the deal.
