IPL Auction 2026: Parthiv Patel said- Gujarat Titans had their eyes on this player for a long time, know who he is

Gujarat Titans is known for its excellent and accurate strategy during the auction. In the auction held on Tuesday for IPL 2026, GT bought West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder along with two Indian uncapped fast bowlers Prithvi Raj Yara and Ashok Sharma. Team’s batting coach Parthiv Patel had a special conversation with IANS on the strategy of buying these players.

Parthiv Patel said, “Jason Holder has been performing consistently in the T20 format for the last one-and-a-half years. We were keeping an eye on him for a long time, wherever he has played the T20 league, he has performed well. The second thing is that Gujarat Titans have always given priority to experience. Holder is a very experienced player and an all-rounder is always important for the team.”

Jason Holder has played a total of 326 T20 matches including league and international. He has taken 345 wickets in 319 innings. Also, he has scored 3,133 runs in 242 innings at a strike rate of 134.92, scoring 4 half-centuries. Holder, who took 97 wickets in 82 innings of 86 matches for West Indies, has scored 746 runs in 62 innings at a strike rate above 135.

34-year-old Holder has played for CSK, SRH, KKR, LSG, and RR before GT. Apart from 259 runs in 27 innings of 46 T20 matches, there are 53 wicket holders in their names.

On the strategy of buying three fast bowlers in the form of Ashok Sharma, Prithvi Raj Yara, and Luke Wood, Parthiv Patel said, “Ashok Sharma is an excellent fast bowler. He has been very effective in domestic cricket. We needed an uncapped fast bowler and we were keeping an eye on him for a long time. So we added him in the auction.”

He said, “We needed a left-arm fast bowler to support Rabada, so we added Prithvi Raj Yara and Luke Wood. Prithvi Raj Yara has also been playing cricket for a long time. We are happy that we were able to include him in our team.”
