IAF Chief Marshal AP Singh: Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said on Friday (February 28, 2025) that India needs to make at least 40 to 50 fighter aircraft every year, so that the old aircraft can be replaced. He also said that it is not impossible to meet this target. Along with this, he also emphasized that the Air Force will give priority to the indigenous system, even if it performs a little less.
Speaking at the Conclave of YouTube channel Chanakya dialogues, Air Chief Marshal said that I am fully convinced in my mind that even though indigenous system gives me a little less performance. If this is 90 or 85 percent of the system of me in the world market, then we will choose the indigenous system because this is the only way that we can always avoid looking outwards to get our system.
He also said that at the same time indigenous system cannot be made overnight. It will take time and it will need support. Therefore, the Indian Air Force is fully committed to any R&D project for this.

The Air Force chief further said that India needs to develop the ability to make at least 35-40 fighter aircraft every year, so that the needs to change the old fleet can be met. He said fire, ‘I think these abilities cannot come overnight but we have to move ourselves in this direction. If a private industry comes for Make in India, then we can probably add 12-18 aircraft every year on their behalf. In such a situation, if we are reaching that number then it is possible.

What did the Air Force Chief say about long battles?
He also emphasized the importance of domestic defense equipment to fight long battles. The Air Force chief said, “We should be able to fight this long fight, for which we need the ability to fix the production rate required for weapons during the war.” He said that in the event of a long war, India will have to depend on the mixture of available resources and believe that the industry can make an essential weapon.
