India defeated West Indies by 7 wickets in the second test played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With this, Team India has won the 2-match series 2-0. In the second innings, India had a target of 121 runs to win, which the team completed within the first hour and registered victory. This is Shubman Gill’s first test series win as captain.

India declared the first innings at 518 runs. West Indies’ first innings was all out at 248, after which Team India gave follow-on to the visiting team. In the second innings, West Indies scored 390 runs and set a target of 121 runs for India to win. Chasing which, KL Rahul scored unbeaten 58 runs, he hit the winning four.

Yashasvi and Gill scored centuries in the first innings

Arun Jaitley’s pitch was favorable for batting, hence after winning the toss, Shubman Gill decided to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal completed his century on the first day, after the wicket of KL Rahul (38), Jaiswal made a partnership of 193 runs with Sai Sudarshan. Sudarshan was out after scoring 87 runs. On the second day, Jaiswal missed his double century, due to lack of coordination with Gill, he was run out after scoring 175 runs. Jaiswal hit 22 fours in this innings.

On the second day, captain Shubhman Gill also completed his century, he remained unbeaten and India declared its first innings at 518/5. Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 43 runs and Dhruv Jurel scored 44 runs.

Kuldeep Yadav took 5 wickets in the first innings

In the second session on the third day, West Indies’ first innings was reduced to 248 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets, he took 5 wickets in the form of Alick Athanaz, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales. Apart from him, Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets, he took all three wickets on the second day. Mohammad Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah got 1-1 wicket in the first innings.

India had given follow on

West Indies could not save the follow-on, after which India called West Indies to bat again. The first two wickets of the visiting team (Tejanarayan Chanderpaul and Alik Athanaz) fell at the score of 35, but after that John Campbell and Shai Hope took over the innings and made a partnership of 177 runs.

John Campbell scored 115 and Shai Hope scored 103 runs. This was Campbell’s first Test century, and he also became the first West Indies batsman to score a Test century in India since 2002. Hope scored a Test century for the first time since 2017.

India had a target of 121 to win

After the centuries of Campbell and Hope, Roston Chase and Justin Greaves also batted well and saved West Indies from innings defeat. Chase scored 40 and Greaves scored 50 runs. Jayden Seales scored 32 runs, with the help of which West Indies was able to set a target of 121 for India to win. This happened only for the fourth time in history when India gave follow on to the opposing team and then Team India had to come out to bat in the fourth innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 175 runs in the first innings, was out after scoring 8 runs in the second innings. After this, there was a partnership of 79 runs between KL Rahul and SAI Sudarshan, on the last day of the match Sudarshan was caught out on the ball of Roston Chase after scoring 39 runs. Shubman Gill, who came after this, also got caught out after playing a quick inning of 13 runs. KL Rahul played an unbeaten half-century (58) and hit the winning four on the second ball of the 36th over.
