Veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar said that it is a pleasure for him that the legacy of the Pataudi family will remain a part of the Indo-England cricket rivalry. For this, a medal will be given to the winning captain of the Test series played between two teams. This series will now be for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
ECB’s move to rename the then Pataudi Trophy after replacing Tendulkar and James Anderson was criticized, but Tendulkar revealed that he had also contacted ECB, BCCI and ICC chairman Jai Shah to ensure that the Pataudi name could be ensured that the Pataudi name was part of India-England cricket. On Thursday, it was revealed that the winning captain of each Test series played between the two teams will be given a new ‘Pataudi Medal’.
Sachin said, & ldquo; When the Pataudi Trophy was retired, I was traveling Spain or elsewhere, and I heard about it. ECB and BCCI decided to retire and start a new trophy, so, I came to know about the new trophy for the first time when I think last month, ECB and BCCI decided to name the trophy after us both."Text-Align: justify;"> Sachin further said, & ldquo; I felt that it is a good thing to recognize our contribution to our respective countries in Test cricket. At the same time, I picked up the phone, and my first phone call was to the Pataudi family. I talked to him and also discussed about keeping the legacy alive. It is important to not forget the contribution to Indian cricket and inspire so many generations, I think it is important. & Rdquo;
Tendulkar said before the first Test starting in Leeds on Friday, "I said, I will talk to you later on this. I spoke to Jai Shah (ICC Chairman), BCCI and ECB and shared some views. After some time and some phone calls, we unanimously decided that Pataudi Medal of Excellence should be given to the winning captain, as he was known for his leadership and would be a good match."
The legacy of the Pataudi family is deeply associated with the history of cricket between India and England. Both Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi led the Indian cricket team and also played County Cricket in England, in which Pataudi was the only cricketer representing both countries.
