If many of the nearby phones also capture similar actions, then Google confirms that the earthquake has occurred and immediately sends an alert to the users of that area.

In some areas of America such as California, Oregon and Washington, Google has partnered with Shakealert Network which gives information about the earthquake with the help of more than 1600 sesmic sensors.

Be aware alert – It is for light shakes (4.5 or more intensity).

Take Action Alert – This is for faster shocks. This alert also breaks your phone’s do not disturb settings and alert immediately with loud sounds so that you can reach safe place.

How to turn on earthquake alert in Android phone?

Step-by-step guide:

• Your phone should be a version of Android 5.0 or above.
• Keep internet and location service on.
• Now go to Settings.
• Open Safety & Emergency section here. (If not visible then tap on “Location”> “Advanced”)
• Now find the Earthquake Alerts option.
• If it is closed then turn it on.
