The Supreme Court on Friday admitted that the Hare Krishna Temple in Bangalore belongs to the ISKCON Society in the city. The apex court accepted the petition of ISKCON Bangalore, challenging the Karnataka High Court order that ruled in favor of ISKCON Mumbai to control the prestigious Hare Krishna Temple and educational premises in Bangalore. This decision was pronounced by a bench of Justice AS Oka and Augustine George Christ.

Legal stakes screwed for about one and a half decades
Let me tell you, ISKCON Bangalore challenged the High Court verdict of May 23, 2011 and moved the apex court on June 2, 2011. In this petition, ISKCON Bangalore, which was represented by its officer Kodandaram Das, challenged the High Court verdict that overturned the 2009 order of a local court in Bangalore.
First Bangalore then decided in favor of Mumbai
Earlier, the trial court ruled in favor of ISKCON Bangalore, recognizing its legal title and a permanent prohibition against ISKCON Mumbai. However, the High Court overturned the decision and retained the opposition of ISKCON Mumbai, which effectively gave them control over the temple.

What is the claim of both societies?
The legal quarrel has put two societies with similar names and spiritual missions against each other. ISKCON Bangalore registered in Karnataka argues that it has been working independently for decades and managing Bangalore Dir. ISKCON Mumbai registered under the National Society Registration Act, 1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 claims that ISKCON Bangalore is only its branch and the related property is truly under its jurisdiction.
