Hockey player Hardik Singh has been a part of the Indian team that won bronze medals in the last two Olympic Games.

Indian hockey team vice-captain Hardik Singh will receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for 2025. Hardik is the only player whose name has been recommended by the selection committee.

27-year-old Hardik Singh has been a part of the Indian team that won medals in Tokyo 2021 and Paris Olympics 2024. He played an important role in winning the gold medal in the Asia Cup held this year.

The names for the Arjuna Award were recommended in the selection committee meeting on Wednesday. It included IOA vice-president Gagan Narang, former badminton player Aparna Popat and former hockey player MM Somaiya.

The committee has selected 24 players including chess player Divya Deshmukh and decathlon athlete Tejaswin Shankar for the Arjuna Award. This time there is no cricketer’s name in the list of sports awards.

Yogasana player gets Arjun for the first time For the first time, Aarti Pal, an athlete associated with Yogasan sport, has been recommended for the Arjuna Award. A Yogasan player has been selected after 5 years of getting recognition from the Sports Ministry. Aarti is currently the national and Asian champion. Yoga will be included as a demonstration sport in the 2026 Asian Games.

First female chess player to receive Divya Arjun 20-year-old Divya Deshmukh is the first Indian female chess player to win the World Cup. Chess player Vidit Gujarati has also been selected for the Arjuna Award. Whereas, Tejaswin Shankar won silver in the 2023 Asian Games. He also stood second in the Asian Championship this year.

Rifle shooter Mehuli Ghosh, gymnast Pranati Nayak and women’s badminton number one pair Trisa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand are also among the recommendations for the Arjuna Award. Mehuli has won bronze in the World Championship twice. Gayatri is the daughter of national badminton coach and former All England champion Pullela Gopichand.

20 year old Divya Deshmukh became the youngest world champion of chess.

No name of any cricketer The name of any cricketer is not included in this list. Earlier, Mohammed Shami had received this honor in 2023. Khel Ratna is the country’s highest sporting honour, which carries a medal, citation and a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh. Under the Arjuna Award, one gets Rs 15 lakh.
