Google Play Services 25.14 Update Brings Auto Reboot If Android Device Remains Locked For 3 Days

If your Android phone remained like a lock for 3 days without using it, then it will now be restarted automatically. These changes have been added by Google to the new version 25.14 of Play Services. The purpose of this feature is to improve security, so that if your phone is lost or stolen, no one should get saved data in it. This new update is quietly rolling out and currently appearing on select devices.

The name of this automatic restart system is associated with ‘Before First Unlock’ mode. Google’s UnderIf a phone is not unlocked for three consecutive days, it will automatically be rebooted and then the mode will be active in which the device is completely encrypted. Neither a biometric login will work in this state nor will you get any app access, until the user unlock the phone by adding passcode themselves.

Google has activated this feature for Android smartphones and tablets. However Android TV, Wear OS or Android Auto devices will not be included in this rule. This simply means that if you have not touched your phone for three days and it is associated with Wi-Fi or charging, then this feature of Google Play Services will reboot the device itself.

The thing to note is that this is not a factory reset, that is, your phone’s data will not be erased. But yes, you have to manually enter passcode or PIN after the reboot, whether you have set a fingerprint or face unlock.

This feature is special for those who do not use the phone sometimes for a long time or who are worried about the security of their device. It is not clear yet which device brands and Android versions this update has reached, but it has been enabled in Play Services version 25.14 and subsequent builds.
