Google Chrome Users in High Risk, Government Issues Warning
A high-risk warning has been issued for users using Internet search engine Google’s Chrome browser. In this warning issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, users have been advised to update Google Chrome browser and ChromeOS devices.

A media report states that CERT-In advisory It has been told that there are some shortcomings in the old version of Google Chrome due to which the users’ data and system are at risk. This includes Google Chrome versions older than 132.0.6834.110/111 for Windows and Mac, ChromeOS versions older than 132.0.6834.110 and 16093.68.0 for Linux. To resolve this, Google has released a Stable Channel update for Google Chrome on desktop platforms. Google has said that this update will soon be available for all users. Chromebook users have also been advised to update their devices to the latest version of ChromeOS.

This advisory states that all users of Google Chrome should update as soon as possible to avoid the risks related to these shortcomings. To check for the update, users can go to the Settings menu of their browser or ChromeOS. Even before this, an emergency advisory was issued by CERT-In for Google Chrome users.

Recently, the Telecom Department (DoT) had advised to be cautious about calls coming from some foreign codes. These codes include +77, +84, +85, +86 and +89. Suspicious calls can be reported on Sanchar Saathi portal. This helps DoT to block these phone numbers. According to a report by the Ministry of Home Affairs, around Rs 2,140 crore was defrauded by scammers in the country in the first 10 months of last year. In the last few years, cases of cyber fraud have increased rapidly. Earlier, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C) and DoT had blocked at least 17,000 WhatsApp accounts of foreign hackers. Its goal is to destroy foreign criminal networks and enhance digital security.
