Gautam Gambhir was born on 14 October 1981 in Delhi. According to his Wikipedia page, Gambhir’s grandfather came to Delhi from Multan in 1947. Gambhir was adopted by his maternal grandparents, since then he lived with them. Gambhir started playing cricket at the age of 10, he studied at Modern School, Delhi. In his early days, Gambhir learned the tricks of cricket under the coaching of Sanjay Bhardwaj from Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy.

Made international debut in 2003

Gautam Gambhir played his first international match against Bangladesh on 11 April 2003, it was an ODI match. A year later, he made his Test debut and then T20 debut in 2007. Gambhir played 242 international matches in all three formats.

Gambhir scored 75 runs in 54 balls in the 2007 T20 World Cup final. Gambhir scored 97 runs in the 2011 ODI World Cup final when two big wickets in the form of Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar fell early.

Under his captaincy, Gautam Gambhir made Kolkata Knight Riders win the IPL title twice (2012 and 2014). Gambhir played for KKR and Delhi Capitals in IPL, scoring 4217 runs in a total of 154 matches.

Gautam Gambhir Coaching Career

In October 2018, Gautam Gambhir completed 10 thousand runs in his List A cricket in Vijay Hazare Trophy. After this, he announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on December 3, 2018. In 2022, Lucknow Super Giants appointed him as a mentor. In 2024, KKR made him a mentor, this year KKR won the trophy under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.

On July 9, 2024, BCCI appointed him as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Under his captaincy, India won the ICC Champions Trophy title this year. Last month itself, with Gautam Gambhir as the coach, India also won the Asia Cup trophy.
