EU has again imposed a fine of crores of rupees while taking major action on Apple and META. On Apple, the European Union has fined 500 million euros i.e. about Rs 4,869 crore. At the same time, Mark Zuckerberg’s company META has been fined 200 million euros i.e. about Rs 1,708 crore. The European Union has imposed heavy fines on these two companies due to violation of antitrust rules. Companies have been accused of misusing their powers.
DMA violation
The penalty by the European Union may also affect the tariff of US President Donald Trump. American tech companies Apple and Meta were under trial in this case for the last one year. According to an EU official, both these companies have worked to damage small players by violating the provisions of the new Digital Markets Act (DMA) of the European Union. At the same time, tech companies believe that the European Union wants to impose the Digital Marketing Act brought in 2023 on them.
Apple statement
In this case, Apple issued its statement saying, “Today’s announcements are another example of the European Union incorrectly targeting Apple in a series of judges that are bad for the privacy and security of our users, bad for products, and forces us to give our techniques for free.”
Meta statement
At the same time, META says, “European Union is trying to disrupt successful American companies by allowing Chinese and European companies to work under various standards.” Meta Chief Global Affairs Officer Joyal Kaplan has issued this statement about Meta. He added, “This is not just a fine. The European Commission is forcing us to change its effective business model.”
EU has asked Apple to remove the technical and commercial restrictions of its app store so that the app developers can provide cheap deals to users from outside besides their stores. At the same time, this penalty has been imposed for the pay-or-concentral model launched in 2023 of Mata. Under this model, Facebook and Instagram users should be concerted for free service so that the avertizers can show Ed for their revenue.
