The US Justice Department said on Wednesday that it may need a few more weeks to release all its documents related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as more than one million documents have been found, which may prove important in the case. The deadline for release of documents by Congress was fixed as December 19. This may cause further delay.
The statement came hours after Christmas Eve, when dozens of US lawmakers requested the Justice Department’s inspector general to investigate the Justice Department’s failure to meet the deadline. This group included 11 members of the Democratic Party and one member of the Republican Party.

He wrote a letter to Acting Inspector General Don Berthiaume saying the victims deserve full information and peace of mind through an independent investigation. The Justice Department said in a social media post that federal prosecutors in Manhattan and the FBI have discovered more than one million documents that may be linked to the Epstein case. Department officials had earlier said that they had completely investigated all the documents related to Epstein, but suddenly at the last moment it was revealed that they had found many more documents.
In March, Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox News that she found a lot of evidence. He then ordered the Justice Department to send all documents related to Epstein to his office. This order was given because they learned from an unknown source that the New York FBI had thousands of documents.
In July the FBI and Justice Department said in a message that they had conducted a complete and thorough review of all documents and that no further evidence would be released. This was contrary to the previous policy of the Trump administration, because earlier they had promised to show everything in a clear and transparent manner. It was not said that there might be some other documents or that some documents might have been missed by him.
