Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P. Chidambaram has made serious allegations against the Election Commission (ECI) regarding the special intensive revision (SIR) process of the voter list in Bihar. He said that the Commission is trying to change the electoral structure and voter form of the states, which is “misuse” of rights and should be opposed in a political and legal manner.

He said, “It is an insult to the migrant laborers who have been permanently migrated to these people and it is a direct interference in the right to choose its chosen representative of the people of Tamil Nadu.” He raised the question that when migrant laborers can return to their state in festivals like Chhath Puja, can not return during the assembly elections?
Chidambaram accused Election Commission
Chidambaram also said, ‘Any person can join the voter list only when he has a permanent and legal residence. This residence of migrant laborers is in Bihar or their home state, then how can they be added as voters in Tamil Nadu? ‘ He alleged that the Election Commission is deliberately trying to change the electoral identity and pattern of the states. The opposition is protesting in Parliament on this entire issue and demanding a discussion on it.
