A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Alaska’s Anchorage metropolitan area on Thursday morning. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of this earthquake, which occurred at 8:11 am local time, was about 12 kilometers west-northwest of Susitna and it was recorded at a depth of about 69 kilometers from the earth’s surface.

USGS said that no major damage or loss of life was immediately reported after the earthquake. At the same time, the US Tsunami Warning System has clarified that there is no danger of tsunami from this earthquake. The Alaska region of America is counted among the most earthquake-prone areas in the world, where a major earthquake of magnitude 7.0 is felt almost every year. According to experts, Thursday’s tremor is the most intense earthquake to hit South Central Alaska since 2021. Although the tremors were strong, it is a matter of relief that there has been no news of any major devastation.

Why do earthquakes occur?

But it also depends on whether the seismic frequency is upward or downward. If the frequency of vibration is higher then less area will be affected.

This intensity determines the magnitude of the earthquake.
