Durga puja 2025: There is a boom of Durga Puja all around. This festival is especially celebrated in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam and many other parts of the country. The celebration of Durga Puja starts from the fifth day of Navratri and runs till Dashami. During this time various puja pandals are established, where beautiful idols of Maa Durga are worshiped and decorated.
Nine forms of Maa Durga are worshiped on the nine days of Navratri and the victory of good over evil is celebrated. The statue of Maa Durga is the center of special attraction. To make the statue of Maa Durga, some five types of soil are taken somewhere. You will be surprised to know that there is also a tradition of using the soil of the courtyard to make the mother’s statue. But why this is done, let’s know the story behind it.
Why is the soil taken from the brothel?
According to mythological beliefs, a prostitute was a great devotee of Mother Durga. But the disdain and insult in the society made him unhappy and desperate. Mother Durga gave a boon after seeing her true reverence and devotion. The mother said that I will not live in that statue until the soil of the brothel is included in my statue.
What are the other reasons?
Apart from this, many religious and mythological perceptions are attached to the use of brothel soils in the idols of Maa Durga. One of these major beliefs is that when a man enters a brothel, he leaves all his purity, virtue and quality outside the frame of that place. While returning from there, he brings the burden of sin with him. Therefore, it is said that the soil outside the frame of the brothel becomes sacred.
Especially the soil outside the house of prostitutes is considered full of virtues of many men. For this reason, this soil is used in idols of Maa Durga. It is also considered a symbol of the power and compassion of the Goddess, because Maa Durga can purify any sin and defect through purity and true devotion.
