Ditwah: ‘India will always be found standing with Sri Lanka…’, PM Modi wrote a letter to Dissanayake; Assurance of help – ‘Sri Lanka Will Always Find India By Its Side’: PM Modi Assures Colombo Support Aftermath Of Cyclone Ditwah

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. In this he assured all possible help from India after Cyclone Ditvah. The Prime Minister said that India will together cooperate in getting life back on track in Sri Lanka and strengthening the country.

He also praised India’s ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’ launched to help cyclone-hit Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Modi said Indian teams engaged in relief material, emergency goods and search and rescue operations helped Sri Lanka in dealing with medical emergencies and restoring connectivity and communication.

Prime Minister Modi wrote in his letter that India launched Operation Sagar Bandhu as part of its ‘neighbourhood first’ policy and commitment to ‘respond first’. Under this, relief material and essential goods were delivered by Indian ships, planes and helicopters. Indian teams assisted in search and rescue operations and played a vital role in responding to medical emergencies and restoring critical communication lines. He said the campaign helped many people in Sri Lanka and was considered a symbol of the deep India-Sri Lanka ties.

Prime Minister Modi further said that now as Sri Lanka is moving towards the next phase of reconstruction, India will provide all possible assistance as a trusted partner and true friend. He said that like before, India will stand shoulder to shoulder with Sri Lanka and cooperate in making the country strong again.

In the letter, PM Modi also informed that India will provide a comprehensive assistance package to Sri Lanka. He expressed confidence that Sri Lanka will emerge stronger than before and will always have India’s support in this journey of national development and progress. Earlier on Tuesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told in Colombo that India has proposed an aid package of US $ 450 million for the reconstruction of Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditvah.
