Delhi has once again won the title of the most polluted metropolis in the country. During the winter of 2024-25 (1 October to 31 January), the average level of PM 2.5 was recorded at 175 micrograms per cubic meter in Delhi. This figure is much higher than all other metros. However, a good news is that Delhi’s air was a bit better than last year’s winter. Let us know that in the winter of 2023-24, this level was 189 micrograms per cubic meter.

Kolkata is the second most polluted metropolis in the country
After the capital Delhi, Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, was the second most polluted metropolis in the country, where the average level of PM 2.5 was 65 micrograms per cubic meter during the winter of 2024-25. However, this level has been much lower than Delhi.

There is no change in the state of pollution in these metros
The Center for Science and Environment (CSE) report also found that pollution in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata decreased compared to last year, while pollution levels in Chennai and Hyderabad are making the same levels as before.
