Delhi news: Speaker of Delhi Assembly Vijendra Gupta has given a befitting reply to the allegations of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi. Leader of Opposition Atishi submitted a memorandum on 12 March 2025 and accused the speaker of behaving in biased in the recently concluded session.
In his reply, the speaker said that your allegations have been made completely baseless and for political gains. He made it clear that the decision to keep the suspended members out of the House was taken under Rule 277, in which the definition of the campus is clearly given.
Speaker Vijendra Gupta said, “In the definition of the campus, ‘surrounding areas’ also come and the speaker has the right to include other places from time to time.” He also said that instead of apologizing for their wrong antics, AAP party leaders and MLAs are blaming me.
Explanation also given at floor time
The speaker also clarified the situation on the questions raised about floor time. He said, “Floor time is given according to the strength of the party, but it also depends on how many members are present in the House. Opposition members were suspended from the House for three days, so they could not get time. ”
The speaker said that AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was given full permission to speak in the House, but he himself walked out and did not participate in the later debate. The speaker also clarified that the time of speaking of the Chief Minister and ministers in the House is not included in the floor time, as they can interfere in the debate at any time under the rules.
Speaker Gupta finally said that “I had to intervene in between to run the proceedings of the House smoothly.” He completely dismissed the allegations and said that his decisions were according to the rules and any kind of bias is wrong. It will now be seen what will be the next reaction of the Aam Aadmi Party on this issue.
