Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh Stop User Charge for Garbage in MCD Meeting with Virendra Sachdeva Ann

User Charge Latest News: There is news of great relief for Delhiites today. Users surcharge for disposal of garbage has been stopped with immediate effect. Along with this, a new settlement plan has also been announced for payment of property tax. This decision was taken by Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh in the presence of Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva.

Why did the surcharge oppose?

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had implemented this surcharge in the budget of 2025-26 without any discussion or advice. This became the biggest reason for its opposition. Several Resident Welfare Association (RWA), traders and industry organizations of Delhi justified this surcharge. He said that neither its amount was appropriate nor the process of implementing it was correct. Sachdeva said that the system of garbage management in some colonies is not good, yet surcharge was imposed. Not only this, it was also implemented on those who claim zero waste.

Legal flaws also exposed

Sachdeva said that the AAP in a hurry implemented this surcharge under the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, but the necessary procedure was not followed. Neither cleanliness committees were formed, nor is there any provision of this surcharge in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Act 1957. In such a situation, it was necessary to complete the legal process before implementing it.

The mayor listened to the public present in the meeting

Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh announced to stop recovering surcharge on the suggestions and advice of Sachdeva at the RWA meeting. He said, “The AAP had imposed this charge without thinking. Now it is being stopped. Tomorrow a proposal will be brought in the meeting of the Municipal Corporation so that such a charge does not be made in future. The mayor also promised that soon the people will be consulted by calling meetings at the regional level.

Relief in property tax to the people of Delhi

Sachdeva had demanded exemption from the mayor for payment of property tax, which was accepted by the mayor. Now a new house tax amnesty scheme will come, in which no interest or penalty will have to be paid for depositing the last 5 years tax. After depositing the tax, taxpayers will also get a no objection certificate (NOC). Sachdeva said that especially people of lower income groups were upset due to outstanding tax and fine. This scheme will bring great relief for them.

RWA representatives made many suggestions

In the meeting, RWA representatives like Suresh Bindal, Atul Goyal, Saurabh Gandhi and others gave their suggestions. These suggestions have been noted. The mayor said that after considering these, steps will be taken soon.

This decision has brought a sigh of relief for the people of Delhi. Now everyone’s eyes are on what steps the Municipal Corporation takes further on this issue and how the complaints of the people are resolved.
