Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi today spoke at length on the future direction of the Indian Army, technological changes and human-centric approach at the Delhi Defense Dialogue. He said that in the coming times, ‘combination of technology and geography’ i.e. the balance of both technology and land is very important.
‘Land will be the real currency of victory’
General Dwivedi said that considering the geographical position of India, land will remain the currency of victory. Giving an example, he said, ‘When Trump and Putin met in Alaska, even then the discussion took place on the ground only. Technology should give us benefits on the ground itself, whether it is destruction, occupation or eviction. He further said, ‘In the situation we are imagining, both ‘smart boots on ground’ and ‘bots’ will be together. That means soldiers and machines will work together, ‘Mind in the cloud, eyes in the sky’. But he warned that technology can sometimes fail during war, so soldiers must be able to fight without the technology. He described it as a mixture of ‘cloud-centric and network-centric warfare’.
