After the Pahalgam terror attack, there were situations like war between India and Pakistan. During this time, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ to destroy the terrorist bases located in Pakistan. Sources have said that after ‘Operation Sindoor’, the defense budget is expected to increase further, in which new weapons and ammunition will be spent on the purchase of technology.
Additional provision of ₹ 50 thousand crore has been proposed through supplementary budget. It can be approved in the winter session of Parliament.
Additional allocation is expected to make provisions for the needs of armed forces, necessary procurement and research and development. This year, a record of Rs 6.81 lakh crore was allocated in the Union Budget for Defense, which is 9.53 percent more than the last financial year. Since the NDA government came to power, in the last 10 years, the defense budget has been recorded nearly three times.
India’s strong air defense system
The defense budget in 2014-15 was Rs 2.29 lakh crore. This year 6.81 lakh crore rupees have been allocated, which is 13.45% of the total budget. Operation Sindoor demonstrated the superiority of India’s defense capabilities on Pakistan. During the tension with Pakistan, India’s strong air defense system neutralized almost every upcoming missile and drone.
In addition to the long-range Russian S-400 ‘Triumph’ system, India deployed Barak-8 medium-distance SAM system and indigenous sky system to fail Pakistani drones and missiles. War-ride air defense systems like Picora, OSA-AK and LLAD guns (low-level air defense guns) were also used.
