There has been a controversy over Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Finance Director calling Tamim Iqbal an agent of India. Many cricketers like captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto, Taskin Ahmed, former captain Mominul Haq and spinner Taijul Islam have expressed strong objection to this statement.
After this, BCB President Aminul Islam has said – ‘This was the personal opinion of that director. I have sought clarification from the concerned officer.
Islam further said- ‘Tamim has achieved a lot for the country and he should have kept this in mind while making public statements.’
A day earlier on Friday, BCB Finance Committee Chairman Nazmul had called Tamim Iqbal an Indian agent in a Facebook post.
Nazmul had made this post after Tamim’s statement, in which the former Bangladesh captain had advised BCB to take a wise decision regarding the T20 World Cup.
BCB President Aminul Islam also said-
- We have not received any response from ICC yet. We have sent all the documents and evidence related to our concerns.
- Shifting the match to any city in India will not resolve our concerns. Any alternative venue in India will remain in India.
- If ICC does not allow us to play our matches in Sri Lanka, then we cannot say anything right now on what we will do next.
- I have not heard about Hyderabad and Chennai. It is possible that we may get some information by Monday or Tuesday.
Shanto said- this kind of statement is sad
On Nazmul’s statement, Bangladesh Test team captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto said- ‘This is unacceptable. A player, whether a former captain or not, deserves respect, ultimately a cricketer expects respect.’
Apart from Shanto, many cricketers including fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, former captain Mominul Haq and spinner Taijul Islam expressed their displeasure.
Nazmul Hasan Shanto is the captain of the Bangladesh Test team.
Former cricketers said – this statement is morale breaking In the matter, Bangladesh Cricketers Welfare Association (BCWA) said, ‘The statement given by BCB Director Nazmul about former captain Tamim Iqbal is shocking.
BCWA said- Tamim has been the most successful opener of Bangladesh. He has represented the country for 16 years. It is not just about a player like Tamim.
Such comments against any cricketer in the country are unacceptable and insulting to the entire cricketing community.
what is the whole matter Tamim Iqbal had given an advice regarding Bangladesh cricket team in an interview given to BBC. He had said that the decision of whether or not to participate in the T-20 World Cup to be held in India should not be taken by emotions, but keeping the future results in mind.
After this statement of Tamim, BCB Director and Finance Committee Chairman Nazmul wrote on a social media post – ‘This time the people of Bangladesh have seen with their own eyes the rise of an Indian agent.’
Tamim Iqbal had advised his board to take a wise decision.
