Chinese Ambassador to India Shoo Faihong said on Sunday that the two Asian neighbors should work together to maintain peace in their border areas and do not allow the border issue to define the overall China-India relations. Sharing a post on X, the Chinese envoy wrote, ‘President Xi Jinping told Prime Minister Modi that China and India are partners, not rival. The two countries are not a threat to each other but an opportunity for development.

Shoo Faihong emphasized that the two countries should increase strategic dialogue so that mutual trust is deep, exchange and mutual-profit cooperation increases, keeping in mind each other’s concerns, find a way of cordial co-existence and strengthen multilateral cooperation to protect shared interests.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan (SCO) leaders. This was his first meeting after the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia in 2024.
