Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has taken a major decision on Tuesday. He has authorized the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan to directly order the three armies (Army, Navy and Air Force) to make better coordination between them. Till now, whenever instructions were issued to any three armies, they used to issue separate orders at their respective levels. But now this process will change and a joint order can be issued simultaneously through CDS.

This initiative of the government is considered an important step towards implementing the model of the theater command of the army. Under this model, the capabilities of the three armies will be united and brought under the same regional command, so that resources can be used best in war and other campaigns.

The Ministry of Defense issued a statement on Tuesday stating that the CDS and Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs have been authorized to issue joint instructions and orders. On the same day, the first joint order related to the acceptance, declaration and order of the joint instructions and orders was also issued.
This order states to make the procedures easier, eliminate repetition and increase cooperation between the three services. The Ministry has described it as an important step towards modernization and change of armed forces. The ministry said, this initiative will improve transparency, coordination and administrative efficiency between the three armies. This is a new beginning towards integrating the armies, which will work unitedly for the service of the nation.

Currently, the Army, Air Force and Navy have their own command, but under the theater model, units of the three armies will be brought under a single command, which will take over the responsibility of security in the particular geographical area.
