Railway Rules: Every day crores of people travel by train in Indian Railways. Indian Railways has made many rules for the passengers to travel in the train. Which everyone has to accept. The biggest rule in this is regarding tickets. Traveling in a train without a ticket is a violation of rules. In such a situation a fine has to be paid. TTEs are present in the train to check whether a passenger is traveling with a ticket or not.
But when a railway police personnel asks to show the ticket. So there is often confusion. The general perception among the people has become that every officer seen in uniform can check tickets. Can this really happen? Know what the railway rules say.
Who has the authority to check tickets?
According to railway rules, only the ticket checking staff has been given the right to check tickets in trains and stations. This includes Traveling Ticket Examiner i.e. TTE and Ticket Checking Staff i.e. TC. These officers check the tickets of passengers and can collect fine from those traveling without ticket or on wrong ticket.

It is also necessary to give a receipt after collecting the fine. They have a valid identity card and official register or digital device. By which they can be identified. If any officer calls himself TTE or TC. So the passenger has the right to demand to see his identity card. Under the rules, the entire action related to tickets comes under the purview of these officers.
Can railway police ask for ticket?
Railway police is present for the safety of passengers and train safety. Railway Police which includes RPF and GRP. The main job of their soldiers and officers is to maintain security arrangements. It is their responsibility to stop theft, assault, illegal activities, women safety and provide help in emergency situations at the station and train. Under normal circumstances, Railway Police does not have the right to check tickets or collect fines.

However, if any passenger is suspected of committing a crime or there is a security issue. So you may be asked to see the ticket for identification. This is not considered regular ticket checking. If a railway police personnel asks for fine wrongly. So the passenger can complain to the railway helpline or senior officials.
