In the early hours of Monday, unidentified armed men opened fire at the house of Pakistani cricketer Naseem Shah in Mayar area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to Mayer police, the incident took place around 1:45 am when the attackers fired several bullets at the main gate of Shah’s house. The attackers fled from the spot immediately after the firing.
Police have registered the case and started investigating the attack. CCTV footage of nearby houses is being examined and security has been increased around the cricketer’s house. Police officials have indicated that based on initial investigation the incident does not appear to be terrorism related, rather it may be related to a land dispute or personal rivalry.
Shah’s father met Lower Dir district police officer Taimur Khan. He assured the family that arrests would be made soon. Local residents said that the Shah family is considered respected in the area and there is no enmity or dispute between them.
