Big blow to Team India! Shreyas Iyer out of Indian team, will be out of South Africa series

There is bad news for the fans of Team India’s reliable batsman Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, who got injured in the third ODI match played against Australia in Sydney, will now remain away from the field for at least two months. According to the report of RevSportz, it may take about eight weeks for Iyer to return fully fit. This means that he may be out of not only the ODI series against South Africa but also the ODI series against New Zealand to be held in January.

Serious injury while taking catch

Shreyas Iyer was fielding during the third ODI between India and Australia in Sydney on 25 October. During the match, he dived to catch the catch of Alex Carey, but during this he got seriously injured in his stomach. Initially it seemed normal, but later his condition worsened. He was immediately admitted to Sydney Hospital, where after examination, doctors discovered that Iyer had suffered an injury to his spleen and internal bleeding.

Medical surgery has been done

According to reports, Shreyas Iyer had to undergo a procedure called Interventional Trans-Catheter Embolization (TCE). This is a medical procedure in which bleeding is stopped by inserting a thin tube into an artery. This surgery is done under image control so that no other part of the body is affected. Due to the hard work of doctors and prompt treatment, Iyer’s condition is now said to be stable.

BCCI gave update

On October 28, the BCCI released a statement on his injury, saying, “Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious abdominal injury during the third ODI on October 25. His injury was immediately diagnosed and he was successfully treated to stop the bleeding. His condition is now better and he is under the observation of doctors.”

BCCI also said that their medical team is in touch with experts from Sydney and India and Shreyas’s recovery is being constantly monitored.
