Big action against fake calls
The government has started cracking down on fake and unwanted marketing calls and messages. Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) has blacklisted 318 companies in the last two months. At the same time, there has been a huge reduction in complaints related to fake calls and messages. The Telecom Authority had started curbing fake calls and messages since last year. For this, the use of new Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) was made mandatory.
Big action against fake telemarketers
However, TRAI said that initially there were many problems in implementing this system. Initially people were not complaining on the DLT system, due to which there was difficulty in taking action against scammers. Apart from the DLT system, there is also an option to report fake calls and messages in TRAI’s app DND. If complaint is made, action can be taken against scammers. In September, 3.12 lakh people had complained about fake calls and messages. At the same time, this number decreased to 2.16 in October.
Lakhs of mobile numbers blocked
TRAI said in its report that in the last one year, the company has blocked about 21 lakh mobile numbers used for fake calls and messages. TRAI has also released the report of its subscribers recently. According to this report, the number of mobile users in India has increased rapidly to 1.1 billion. Most of these users use smartphones.
Fake calls and messages can be reported through Do-Not-Disturb i.e. DND app and Sanchar Sathi app. DND app has been prepared by TRAI. This app is available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. At the same time, Sanchar Sathi app has been prepared by the Department of Telecommunications i.e. DoT. On the basis of complaints made on these apps, action is taken against unregistered telemarketers and companies sending fake calls or messages and SIM cards.
