Question: Is the film The Battle of Shatrughat based on a real incident? answer: This film is historical but also commercial. We have not based it on any particular incident or character. This is just an inspiration. In all the historical films made so far, there has not been much mention of the Mongols.

A little bit happened only in the film Padmaavat. This film shows how the Mongols were. Till now only one enemy (Afghan) has been visible, but here there are two enemies, Afghani and Mongol. This is completely fictional. It has everything romance, action and drama.

Question: How was actor Gurmeet Choudhary associated with this film? answer: I had initially messaged Gurmeet’s manager, but no specific reply came. Then I met Amit Sadh, who was ready to do this film, but could not negotiate with him on the budget. Then I got a reply from Gurmeet. Talks were also held with Aftab Shivdasani, he was also ready, but in the end the film was finalized with Gurmeet. When I met Gurmeet and showed him everything, from there things became positive and we moved forward.

Question: Why not cast any other big star? answer: The Battle of Shatrughat is the biggest work I have done till date. Its content is also big. We are successful in doing such films in low budget. The plan after this is to work with bigger actors. Apart from Gurmeet and Aarushi Nishank, it also stars Siddharth Nigam, Mahesh Manjrekar, Zarina Wahab and Raza Murad.

We are trying our best to make it look larger than life and like a historical war film. For this, shooting was done in Umargaon, Mumbai. Also went to Srinagar. The thing is that when an independent producer makes a film, problems are bound to arise, be it finance or support. Will release it on a large scale.

Shahid Kazmi has previously made projects like Lahore Diaries, Mission 70 and The Era of 1990.

It is on (Gurmeet and Aarushi Nishank) only, but before that comes the responsibility of the country and motherland. Therefore they have to see both things. The film is about how a girl from a small clan becomes a queen and how she changes the rules. Right now we have completed more than 75% shooting. There is still some remaining work on which work is going on at a rapid pace.

Question: What is the status of the film ‘Kandahar: The Battle of Silk Route’? answer: ‘Kandahar’ is a 10 episode web series. Its approvals etc. have been done and only one agreement is yet to be made. It should be released by January-February. This is also fictional, but ‘inspired’ by someone.

Question: Do you have much interest in historical subjects? answer: I have a lot of interest in historical subjects. Watching Hollywood movies since childhood, I used to wonder why such movies are not made here. Secondly, when I did it, from the business angle also I felt that it was best for me. This can be called my signature style.
