Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor in the interim government of Bangladesh, has met Alex Soros, son of American businessman George Soros. Both of them met at an event of the Open Society Foundation in Dhaka. Yunus has met Alex for the second time in the last three months.

Yunus posted on social media and gave information about the meeting. He said that Bangladesh’s economy and economic reforms were discussed in the meeting. According to the Daily Star report, Alex Soros also praised Yunus for the reforms.

Alex is the President of the Soros Open Society Foundation. It was founded by his father George Soros.

Earlier in November last year, the two met in New York.

America stopped Bangladesh’s financial assistance

The US government banned all kinds of help to Bangladesh on 26 January. President Donald Trump signed the decision to stop the help of other countries after swearing in.

Subsequently, on Sunday, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) ordered the closure of all its projects in Bangladesh. A letter was also issued by USAID.

Referring to Trump’s order in the letter, it was written,

We are ordering all USAID partners to immediately stop or suspend the subsidy, cooperative agreement or other assistance done under USAID and Bangladesh contracts.

According to the news agency AFP, this order of the US State Ministry also banned health help to poor countries.

The Trump administration has banned all the help to foreign countries except Israel, Egypt and Food Program on 24 January.

Bangladesh is struggling with economic crisis

According to a report by Financial Express, experts fear that Bangladesh’s economic model has failed badly. The World Bank has reduced the GDP growth forecast to Bangladesh by 0.1% to 5.7% for FY 2024-25. Inflation has reached close to 10%. Bangladesh’s trouble may increase further due to the closure of American help.

Crisis such as constantly increasing budget deficit, decreasing foreign exchange reserves, decline in currency value and increasing income inequality are making difficulty for Bangladesh beforehand. Bangladesh’s economy is falling down rapidly.

More than 1 million people have become unemployed since Sheikh Hasina was coup on August 5. Industries are getting stalled due to the economic crisis. A large part of the population of Bangladesh may face severe famine.

George Soros has been opposed to Prime Minister Modi

George Soros was born on August 12, 1930 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. George is accused of running an agenda of politics and society of many countries of the world. Soros’s organization ‘Open Society Foundation’ entered India for the first time in 1999.

In 2014, it started funding the institutions that improve the drug, judicial system in India and help people with disabilities. In 2016, the Government of India banned funding through this institution in the country.

George’s statement in Munich Security Council in August 2023 was very much discussed. When he said that India is a democratic country, but Prime Minister Modi is not democratic.
