Anta by-election: 8th by-election in Rajasthan

The ruling BJP has made Morpal Suman its candidate for this by-election. Former minister Pramod Jain Bhaya is contesting from the Congress side. A total of 15 candidates are in the election race, including independent Naresh Meena. Naresh Meena had contested the by-election from Deoli-Uniara assembly seat in Tonk district last year and was accused of slapping an officer on election duty and threatening voters.

This is the eighth assembly by-election in Rajasthan under the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP government that came to power in December 2023.

By-elections were held on seven assembly seats in November last year. By-elections were held on five assembly seats due to MLAs being elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections held in May 2024. By-elections were held on two seats due to the death of sitting MLAs. The ruling BJP had won five of those seven seats.

The ruling BJP currently has 118 MLAs in the state’s 200-seat assembly. Congress has 66 MLAs, Bharat Adivasi Party has four, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has two and Rashtriya Lok Dal has one MLA.
