As soon as the news of 30,000 job cuts in Amazon came yesterday, the sword of job loss started hanging over many of its employees. Now the news has come that the impact of this global layoff will also be seen on the Indian employees and out of these thousands of job cuts, Indian employees are also going to have some share. According to media reports, this information has been received and it has been said that 800 to 1000 employees in India may have to lose their jobs. While the jobs of 30,000 employees in Amazon are being eliminated after the retrenchment process, 14,000 of these jobs are going to be eliminated as corporate jobs.
800-1000 jobs will be reduced in India
This is said to be the biggest layoff in the history of Amazon and earlier in the year 2023, 27,000 employees were laid off. This time the retrenchment process has started from Tuesday i.e. 28th October. These 30,000 jobs constitute 10 percent of Amazon’s 3,50,000 total employees and out of these, 1000 employees will be from India. However, it is also being said that this number may increase further in the future, however, under this retrenchment, employees from finance, human resource, marketing and technology departments will be reduced.
Amazon will lose jobs due to AI
According to an ET report, the roles that will be most affected will be those related to the global reporting structure and the biggest reason behind this is Amazon’s increasing dependence on Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is now in the process of getting most of the work done on its delivery chain through AI and that is why the company is reducing its dependence on human resources.
The layoff process is being continuously monitored in Amazon.
The company’s CEO Andy Jassy had indicated long ago that the company would continuously keep an eye on the layoff process and need. Although Amazon itself has not officially said anything about this yet, earlier this year also the company had reduced some employees. This time it is being told that through an internal memo, some cuts in many layers of employees had already been indicated.
