Can become a threat to humans
AI scientist Bengio said that before the advent of ChatGPT, he and his fellow scientists thought that it would take decades for machines to understand language, but ChatGPT has shown that now machines are beginning to understand language. In this podcast he mentions Alan Turing. Turing had said in 1950 that if machines start understanding language then they can become as intelligent as humans, which will pose a threat.
Bengio said that machines have started understanding language, but are still lagging behind in many other tasks including planning. He has made it clear that AI robots are not a big threat right now, but they may pose a threat in the future. He told that in the beginning of 2023 he felt that we are creating things which can become enemies of humans. If a generative AI like ChatGPT gets a lot of power, it can control humans.
