India’s ODI team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been shifted out of the ICU of a Sydney hospital and his condition is stable, reducing concerns about his health. He was admitted to the hospital due to splenic rupture and rib injury.
A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source with knowledge of the development told PTI on condition of anonymity, “He has been shifted out of the ICU and it may take a few more days for him to be discharged from the Sydney hospital.” ,
During the third ODI cricket match played against Australia in Sydney, Iyer suffered an injury in the lower part of his left rib while trying to take a difficult catch of Alex Carey off the ball of Harshit Rana. Initially he went off the field with the help of the physio, but later his condition deteriorated, due to which he had to be immediately admitted to the hospital.
Later tests revealed internal bleeding due to injury to the spleen, following which he was admitted to the ICU for intensive observation.
BCCI head of medical services Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, in his letter to the board, is understood to have praised the on-field medical staff for their quick and efficient response, which helped avert a potentially serious situation. Meanwhile, sources have indicated that Iyer’s family members will soon go to Sydney to meet him.
