External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar once again clarified India’s stand on Operation Sindoor in the US. He said that Operation Sindoor told the world that India would take action against terrorism. He said that the statement of the Quad and the United Nations Security Council on 25 April is important for us. It states that criminals of terrorism should be held accountable. They should be brought to the dock of justice.

Jaishankar said that we shared the nature of terrorism with our counterparts globally along with Quad. India has been facing this for many decades. We are strong to answer it very strongly today and we have the right to defend ourselves.

Regarding meeting the US Secretary of State, Jaishankar said that bilateral meeting with Rubio was good. The two leaders essentially reviewed the discussion of the last six months and considered the path ahead. This included discussion on trade and investment, technology, defense and security, energy and dynamics. I held separate meetings with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

On the US plan to impose 500 percent tariffs on imports from countries buying oil from Russia, Jaishankar said that any development in the US Congress is a matter of interest for India. If it affects our interest or can affect our interest, the Indian Embassy and officials are in touch with American Senator Graham on the issue. He said that I think we have been made aware of our concerns in energy security and our interests. So when we reach that bridge, we have to cross it.

Quad countries condemned the Pahalgam attack

Earlier, Quad countries i.e. America, India, Japan and Australia condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April in a joint statement on Wednesday. In the terrorist attack, 26 innocent people were brutally murdered by the terrorists. Foreign ministers of Quad countries called upon all UN member countries to cooperate in bringing criminals, organizers and financers of this condemnable act to the dock without any delay. It included External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Ivaya.

United Nations Security Council emphasizes on ending terrorism

Members of the United Nations Security Council also condemned the Pahalgam attack in strong terms. The members of the Security Council emphasized the need to justify criminals, organizers, financers and sponsors of this condemnable act of terrorism and bring them into the dock of justice. Those responsible for these murders should be held accountable and urged all states to actively cooperate with all the concerned officials in this regard as per their obligations under international law and relevant security council proposals.
