Three Indian citizens have been kidnapped during the terrorist attacks on Tuesday in the West African country of Mali. Expressing deep concern over the incident, the Government of India has appealed to the Mali government to take all necessary steps to ensure immediate and safe release.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea), on 1 July, some armed attackers attacked the Diamond Cement Factory in Mali, and abducted three Indian citizens working there.
Al Qaeda organization took responsibility
The responsibility of this kidnapping organization ‘Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam Val Muslimeen’ (JNIM) has claimed responsibility for other attacks in Mali.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Indian Embassy in Mali’s capital Bamako is in constant touch with local administration, law enforcement agencies and cement factory management. Also, the families of the abducted Indians are also being made aware of every situation.

Appeal of Ministry of External Affairs
The government has appealed to the Mali government for every effort to ensure every effort to ensure the early and safe return of Indian citizens, calling the incident a ‘grossly condemnable act of violence’. The Ministry of External Affairs said that it would provide all possible assistance to Indians and “is committed to ensure a safe return of the kidnapped Indian citizens as soon as possible.”
The government has also advised other Indians living in Mali to be vigilant, caution and keep in regular contact with the embassy. The Ministry of External Affairs also reiterated that the safety and goodness of Indians abroad is the top priority of the Government of India.
