Rishabh Pant, vice -captain of the Indian team, scored a century in the first innings of the first Test against England. Pant completed a century by hitting a six on Shoaib Bashir. This is Pant’s seventh Test century and he has become the Indian wicketkeeper batsman to score the most centuries in Tests. He has left behind Mahendra Singh Dhoni in this matter. India’s score has reached 400 runs on the basis of Pant and Shubman Gill’s partnership.
Pant also overtook even in case of sixes
Pant has hit 79 sixes in his Test career so far and he has left Dhoni behind in this matter too. Pant has done this in 76 innings. Dhoni has hit 78 sixes in 144 innings. Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma are currently ahead of Pant. Sehwag has hit 90 and Rohit has hit 88 sixes.
Three batsmen scored centuries
Three batsmen have scored centuries in this match. This is the fourth time outside Asia when three batsmen of India have scored centuries in an innings of a Test match. Yashasvi, Gill and Pant have put hundreds in this match. Earlier in 1986, Sunil Gavaskar, Srikanth and Mohinder scored centuries against Australia. At the same time, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly against England in 2002 and Sehwag, Dravid and Mohammad Kaif against West Indies in 2006 scored centuries in the same innings.
