A jihadi organization in Northern Burkina Faso attacked several places including military bases and Jibo city. More than 100 people died in the attack. Most of the dead were soldiers. A support personnel and locals informed about the attack on Monday (local time).

A assistance worker working in the most affected areas of Burkina Faso said that several places including the military base and the city of Jibo were attacked in the early hours of Sunday. A student said that her father also died in this attack. He spoke on the condition of not mentioning the name of fear of safety.
Jihadi organization JNIM took responsibility for the attack
The responsibility of this attack was taken by Jehadi organization Jamaat Nasar al-Islam Wal-Muslimin, also known as JNIM. This organization is active in Sahel area.

Burkina Faso commanded in the hands of military jute
Burkina Faso is now operated by military jute. The country has a population of 23 million. The country falls in the Sahel region of Africa, which is worst affected by terrorism and violence. In 2022, the cause of the coup twice was also violence, resulting in about half of Burkina Faso out of the government’s control. Security forces have also been accused of murders out of law.
Fighters captured all the entry outposts of Jibo before the attack
Charlie Verb, an independent analyst who focused on support workers and Sahel, said that the attack started simultaneously at many places at 6 am on Sunday (local time). The aid worker said, ‘JNIM fighters attacked eight places simultaneously to disperse the Air Force of Burkina Faso. The biggest attack occurred in Jibo, where JNIM fighters attacked military camps and anti -terrorism unit camps. Earlier, fighters captured all the entry outposts of the city.

JNIM more powerful and active than before: analyst
Analyst Verb further stated that the attackers captured the area for several hours without air aid from Burkina Faso’s army. However, earlier in the attacks on Jibo, security forces had drove the extremists behind. Sahel expert Wasim Nasar at the Saufan Center Security Think Tank said that the attack on Sunday morning shows that JNIM in Burkina Faso is more powerful and active than before. He said that targeting a city like Jibo is an indication that now this organization can easily roam inside the country. Analysts have warned that military jute’s strategy, in which untrained common citizens are being admitted by making militia, have increased inter-caste tension.
