Preparations have started to link the voter ID card to Aadhaar amid allegations of manipulation in the voter list. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will discuss the issue with the Union Home Secretary, Legislative Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Tuesday. Recently, this step is being taken regarding the dispute in Parliament on the issue of duplicate voter ID card.

The duplicate voter card (EPIC) numbers within and outside the Parliament are causing a lot of ruckus. Also, political parties have raised questions on the validity of the Election Commission through this. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also raised this issue. On Friday, the Election Commission (EC) said that it would solve the problem of decades -old duplicate voter ID card (EPIC) numbers in the next three months.

It is said that according to Section 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, called the Election Act (Amendment) Act, 2021, the Election Registration Officer may demand the current or future voters to provide Aadhaar number to establish an identity on voluntary basis. This law allows the voter list to voluntarily connect with Aadhaar Database.
The government has also said on the issue that the Aadhaar-Voter Card Seeding Practice process is conducted and no target or deadline has been set for the proposed linking. Apart from this, those who do not connect their Aadhaar details to the voter list, their names will not be cut from the voter list.

TMC had lodged a complaint regarding the same EPIC number
In West Bengal, the ruling party Trinamool Congress raised the issue of duplicate voter ID card numbers in many states and has also accused the Election Commission of cover-up. A TMC delegation met Election Commission officials in Kolkata on Thursday and filed their complaints about the same voter photo identity card (EPIC) number. After a meeting with Election Commission officials, West Bengal minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim told reporters that each voter should have a unique identity card number and demanded physical verification to ensure it.
