Supreme Court Judge Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai criticized the edited clip of the hearing to make the legal proceedings sensational on social media and said that the judiciary may have to make guidelines for live streaming of courts.
Justice Gawai said at an event in Kenya that the clip of court proceedings is edited without reference and shared on the social media platform. He was speaking on the subject of the use of technology inside the court.
He said, ‘I would like to reveal another concern from Indian experience. Small clips of court hearing are often broadcast on social media, sometimes in such a way that the proceedings become sensational. When these clips are taken out of the context, it can lead to misinformation, misinterpretation of judicial discussions and wrong reporting.
He said that several content creators, including YouTubers, re -uploaded the small parts of the hearing as their content, causing concerns over the ownership of intellectual property rights and judicial recording. Justice Gawai said that the management of such challenges is an emerging issue for the judiciary and the courts may have to set guidelines on the use of live-stream proceedings.
Justice Gawai said that although technology has led to a significant improvement in access to judicial proceedings, it has also given rise to many moral concerns. Justice Gawai said that courts around the world are intensifying technology to improve efficiency, increase decision -making and promote access to justice.
Justice Gawai also underlined the important risks associated with the use of AI in legal research.
